Ford’s Focus compact sedan was the world’s best-selling car last year, the American automaker said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ford sold 1.02 million of this fuel-efficient two or four-door sedan worldwide in 2012, with sales driven by the United States, where they increased by 40% year-on-year, and by China, where they jumped 51%.
“Our products are well received by our consumers around the world,” said Jim Farley, one of Ford’s marketing managers.
With the group’s “One Ford” strategy, which targets globalized products, “we are able to generate economies of scale and tremendous value for money for our customers globally,” he added. .
Farley said Ford added additional production capacity last year, “a tremendous opportunity to strengthen our global compact car sales in 2013, which are already off to a good start.”
