The Toronto Stock Exchange closed Wednesday’s session with a slight gain.
Discount store giant Dollarama posted a 27% profit increase for its most recent quarter as consumers flocked to its establishments to purchase groceries and household products. The company also raised its financial outlook for the full year.

There was some concern before Dollarama’s results were released, as other retailers reported “disorderly” results as Canadian consumers cut back on spending, said Greg Taylor, director of investments at Purpose Investments. But it’s clear that Dollarama is benefiting from this decline as people shop and look for deals, he noted.
Elsewhere, cannabis stocks gave up some of their recent gains as hope for the U.S. market faded, Taylor noted.
