(Saint Paul) The Minnesota Wild have awarded a one-year contract worth US$825,000 to defenseman Calen Addison, general manager Bill Guerin announced Tuesday.
Addison, who is 23, scored three goals and had 26 assists in 62 games last season with the Wild. These statistics also allowed him to establish a franchise record for the number of assists by a rookie during a single season, and to move into second place in Wild history for the number points in a single season by a rookie defenseman – behind Filip Kuba, with 30.
Since his arrival in the NHL, the player from Brandon, Manitoba, has scored five goals and amassed 28 assists in 80 games spread over three seasons with the Wild (2020-23).
Addison was selected in the second round, 53e overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He was then acquired by the Wild on February 10, 2020 along with forward Alex Galchenyuk and a first round draft pick of 2021, in return for striker Jason Zucker.
