Elisa C-Rossow pays tribute to her mother swept away by the waves
This fall-winter collection is very special for Montreal designer Elisa C-Rossow. She dedicates it to her mother, Betty, a woman who passed on her sense of style and who lost her life suddenly on October 2, 2020 when her house, located in a valley in the Alpes-Maritimes, in France, was swept away by a torrent of water, the result of extreme precipitation. Ten people are dead, eight are missing. The body of Elisa’s mother was found 13 days later. By paying tribute to him in one of her collections, the designer agrees to open up about what she describes as “trauma”. “I experienced life and death at the same time,” says the woman who had just given birth to her second child and who had to experience this tragedy from a distance.
Linking this loss to her work is a way for her to continue her educational work on the environmental impact of fashion. “I’m not saying that it was fashion that took my mother away, but everything is linked. Our impact on this planet is linked to disasters like this and the loss of loved ones. »

To embody the mother-daughter relationship and highlight the transgenerational side of her creations, Elisa called on the ceramist Trudy Crane and her daughter, the photographer Chloé Crane-Leroux, to present the pieces from this collection. We find the minimalist lines, the timeless style and the versatility that characterize the designer’s work. Some pieces are classics that she repeats from year to year, others are new, like this oversized Japanese wool coat, which bears her mother’s name, and this multifunctional scarf knitted in Montreal. By focusing on the longevity of the clothes she creates, she wants to see them passed down from mother to daughter, from generation to generation.

Watier’s sunscreen
Of course, we cannot say that we are suffering from too much sun this summer. But who knows what the future holds? Moreover, if you want to slow down the aging of your skin, this is the beauty gesture to adopt: apply a good sunscreen daily to your face, which is particularly fragile and exposed, insist dermatologists. Unfortunately, not all moisturizers contain them. This is why we particularly appreciate this new Sun Smart moisturizing cream from Watier, based on titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, with SPF 30 (UVA and UVB), which easily penetrates the face, without leaving the slightest greasy effect. nor an ugly white mark. Use alone, or in addition to your favorite moisturizer, as desired.
