Starting cornerback Jonathan Jones did not play after being sidelined before the game with an ankle injury. The Patriots learned more bad news in the second quarter, when Marcus Jones left with shoulder soreness.
Defensively, the Dolphins took advantage of a turnover by rookie Demario Douglas in the first quarter, leading to Mostert’s first touchdown of the game. Then, up 17-3 in the third quarter, the Dolphins’ Xavien Howard caught a pass from Mac Jones, which was intended for DeVante Parker inside the five.
The Dolphins then took advantage of an 18-yard run by Jones, and a holding penalty on Howard, to complete a six-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Hunter Henry.
